This position involves working with a small crew to execute home performance renovation and maintenance work, including but not limited to installing:
- insulation (spray foam and cellulose)
- sealed crawlspace systems
- weatherization materials, such as caulking and weather stripping
- new ductwork and mechanical systems
- radon mitigation systems
- air filtration systems...
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the execution of home performance tasks such as weatherization, installation of insulation (cellulose and spray foam), sealed crawlspace systems, and mechanical systems, duct sealing and installation.
- Assist with skilled work tasks, which may include carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Operate all equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks such as cellulose machine, spray foam reactor, generator, industrial insulation vacuum, paint sprayer, lift jack, power tools, and hand tools.
- Complete the Building Performance Institute’s (BPI's) Certification of Building Science Knowledge exam.
- Drive to and from job sites in a long van with trailer.
- Perform equipment repair and maintenance duties.
- Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in areas of assigned work.
- Basic knowledge of residential building and construction concepts.
- Basic knowledge in home maintenance and home repairs.
- Basic skills in the operation of equipment, tools, and instruments used for assigned work areas and their proper maintenance.
- Basic skill in the operations of smartphones, iPads and related equipment.
- Basic skill in photo-documentation and email.
- Ability to operate a large van with a trailer.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and architectural drawings.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, sub-contractors and clients.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
- Ability to physically perform operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, standing, laying, reaching, pushing, lifting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Ability to perform medium work lifting heavy objects (100 lbs) as a team and moderately heavy objects (25 lbs) alone.
- Ability to be exposed to dust, fumes, mold, and other health hazards with the use of personal protective equipment.
Desirable Education and Experience
- High school graduation preferred.
- Some experience in renovation and/or construction including equipment operation and trades work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using power and hand tools and other relevant equipment

E3 is hiring a Home Performance Field Technician (level II) with a special emphasis on HVAC installation and maintenance. This position involves work including but not limited to installing:
- heating, cooling, ventilation and dehumidification systems
- insulation (spray foam and cellulose)
- sealed crawlspace systems
- weatherization materials, such as caulking and weather stripping
- new ductwork and mechanical systems
- radon mitigation systems
- air filtration systems

- Take the lead on HVAC installation projects. Applicant must have experience with refrigeration and duct systems and be able to interpret Manual J/S/D documentation.
- When not working on HVAC installation and maintenance, this individual will assist with the execution of other home performance tasks such as weatherization, installation of insulation (cellulose and spray foam), sealed crawlspace systems, and duct sealing and installation.
- Assist with skilled tasks, which may include carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.

This person will help ensure that new homes are energy efficient and pass certain elements of the new building energy code. The position requires on the job training and certification is provided as needed. If the applicant is already certified, this will be considered when setting the compensation. Work includes, but is not limited to:
- conducting daily pre-dry wall inspections, blower door tests, duck blaster tests, and ventilation flow tests for new construction builders.
- reporting results of testing and inspections on a daily basis to our clients.
- driving to and from job sites responsibly in company vehicle.
- developing relationships with builders, and HVAC and insulation sub-contractors.
- assisting with home energy audits on existing homes, when needed.

Experience, Education, and Other Requirements:
- Must have completed high school or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- Must have some experience in residential construction.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Adequate math skills is a must. Complex area and volume calculations needed daily, sometimes performed in the field.
- Knowledge of residential construction and building science and energy codes preferred.
- Ability to read basic building plan/floor designs.
- Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects (50lbs.) over short distances.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, enter crawlspaces, attics, and all other areas of a dwelling.
- Able to effectively use computers and mobile devices for basic computing and learn job specific software.
- Must have a valid driver’s license & acceptable record.
- Must have dependable transportation to and from work.
- Must pass a background check and drug test.
Preferred Experience, Certifications, & Qualifications
- HERS rater or Rating Field Inspector
- BPI Certification or other building science training or certification
- Residential construction experience especially in HVAC or home inspections
- Interest and/or background in science.
- Interest in sustainability and green building practices
